Why Do Students in The United States Change Classmates Each School Year?

And the effects on friendships

I have been pleasantly surprised by the school system in the United States, minus the safety aspect. My elementary school kid absolutely thrives in school, and he can’t wait to go to school in the morning. Although I am terrified of sending him I try not to let my fear get to him. He loves his class and his teachers, and school is a wonderful place for him these days.

I am saying these days because the school year is ending, and once that happens, he will move on to living the good life during summer break, and then in the fall, he will meet a new class and a new teacher.

I did not grow up changing classes, or teachers each school year. I also didn’t get my first grade until the age of 13. The Norwegian school system is very different, and there are things I like and dislike about both systems.

Stuck for a year, max

One I can’t quite decide on is the changing of classmates and teachers each school year.

On one side, there’s the fact that if you’re in a bad class, you’re only stuck in it for a school year. In Norway, I had the same teacher for four years. I got lucky and loved both my fellow classmates and my teacher, but I am well…
