This is interesting!

In this city of millions, as in the rest of the United States, pregnant women are somewhat left to their own devices — in strong contrast to Germany (where I live), where pregnant women have the right to free prenatal and postnatal care from a midwife. But in the U.S., a lack of skilled workers and the limitations of the health care system do not provide for closely-integrated birth care. Therefore, it’s really luck how the birth goes.

This is interesting! Great story. I had my first two boys in Norway and my last one in the U.S. but I actually felt I got more help here in America. I’m sure a lot depends on what state you live in, though! We left city living when I was 7 months pregnant and moved to a calmer area.
